Operation Southern Slow Down July 14-19 Announced By Georgia Authorities

July 14, 2025

Georgia drivers, buckle up. Operation Southern Slow Down is officially set for July 14 through July 19 and authorities are gearing up for a serious crackdown on speeders and aggressive drivers. Law enforcement agencies across Georgia have confirmed they will be saturating highways and local roads with officers whose mission is to catch anyone pushing their luck behind the wheel.

A Multi-State Safety Campaign Rolls Out

Operation Southern Slow Down is not confined to Georgia. This is a coordinated effort with Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee all rolling out extra patrols at the same time. The campaign’s goal is simple: save lives by slowing drivers down before speed turns into tragedy.

The Ticket Clinic recently covered Florida’s role in the operation in its blog, warning drivers that troopers in the Sunshine State will be working alongside local police to patrol major interstates, smaller highways, and urban streets. It’s the same story in Georgia, where law enforcement will be swarming Interstate 75, Interstate 85, Interstate 20, and other major routes.

If you’ve driven through Georgia or Florida in the summer, you know the roads can feel like racetracks. Long stretches of asphalt, sunshine overhead, and the temptation to nudge past the limit. But during Operation Southern Slow Down, that temptation can lead to flashing lights in your rearview mirror faster than you can say citation.

What Drivers Should Expect on Georgia Roads

In Georgia, Operation Southern Slow Down means more than just a couple of troopers parked on the shoulder. Drivers can expect:

  • Marked patrol cars and unmarked vehicles blending in with traffic
  • Sneaky speed traps with troopers using laser and radar devices to catch speeders from far distances
  • Motorcycle units deployed by local departments
  • Speed detection aircraft clocking drivers from the sky
  • Increased enforcement even on secondary highways and city streets

Georgia State Patrol has been vocal about targeting drivers who exceed the speed limit by large margins, those weaving through traffic, tailgating, or engaging in other forms of aggressive driving. The presence will be heavy on major interstates but no road will be ignored.

The Stakes for Drivers in Georgia

A speeding ticket in Georgia is far more than an annoying piece of paper. Fines can climb quickly, especially if you’re cited for super speeder status, which applies to drivers going 75 mph or faster on a two-lane road, or 85 mph or faster on any road or highway. Those tickets come with extra fees and serious consequences for your driving record.

Beyond the fines, Georgia drivers risk:

  • Points on their license which can trigger suspension
  • Soaring insurance premiums
  • Trouble renewing commercial driver licenses or employment consequences for professional drivers
  • Potential jail time in extreme cases of reckless driving

It’s worth noting that even out-of-state drivers can face penalties that follow them home, especially because southern states share information under the Driver License Compact.
